Leading By Example: A Panel Discussion on Employment and Acceptance
Both autistics and employers can lead by example by developing employment opportunities and company cultures that recruit, include and accept people with autism and their differences. During our presentation time, David Kearon will moderate a panel of 4-5 adults with autism, including both national self-advocate leaders and local self-advocates from Idaho.
The panel will discuss barriers to finding and maintaining employment, both in Idaho and nationally. We also will be discussing the challenges in societal acceptance and understanding of people on the spectrum, and how this impacts employment. We will share stories of personal experience, the role that Autism Speaks is playing in furthering this conversation, and ways to move the bar in both of these areas, including accessing current resources.
