Building Your Toolbox: Introduction to Behavior, Response, and Prevention

This session introduces behavior, discusses what behavior is, precursor behaviors to monitor, and several things to be mindful of when addressing behaviors. This session will also discuss the importance of prevention and provide tips for participants to keep in their toolbox when working with clients with disabilities. This session will also cover the crisis cycle and response strategies for each level.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the basics of behavior, prevention strategies, and response techniques and how they apply to the services provided
  • Identify a list of prevention strategies to apply to reduce the likelihood of behavior to occur
  • Identify a list of response strategies and how to apply them in the crisis cycle
  • Apply topics discussed to a variety of scenarios and discuss steps to help prevent and then respond to the behavior
