August 10, 2023    10:45AM  -  12:15PM

This session will detail the presenter’s learning in Ghana from women victims of human trafficking and in Uganda with orphanage reform. The lessons are surprisingly similar to what he learned from supporting people with disabilities. They include the importance of self-determination, self-sufficiency, human dignity, self-respect, and the power of resilience in the face of trauma and hardship.

Learning Objectives:

1. Self-determination is critical to mental and physical health

2. Attitude can help people survive horrific circumstances

3. Focusing on the future is essential for progress

4. Dependency is disempowering
